Did Sayyiduna ‘Umar (RA) ever bury his daughter alive?

October 20, 2013
  • Status : FABRICATED

The following infamous story is often related concerning the Amir-ul-mu’mineen :

On one occasion, a few companions saw Umar ibn al-Khattab (Allah be pleased with him) laughing and then crying; one after the other. They asked what reason made him laugh then cry. He said, “I remember that in the days of Jahiliyyah, I used to have this idol made of dates. One day, I became so hungry that I ate it. And then, I cried when I remembered digging a hole and burying my daughter alive. While I was putting her in, she reached up and brushed dirt from my beard.”

A few points to note :

1) Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radhiAllaahu ‘anhu) had a daughter called ‘Hafsa’ [i.e. Hafsa bint Umar] who was born 5 years before the Messenger of Allah was sent with Islam. So why was was she not killed ?

2) Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radhiAllaahu ‘anhu) also had a sister called ‘Fatimah’, whom we know of upon reading about his acceptance of Islam, and she too was not harmed.

3) Thus it was not from the practice of the tribe of Sayyiduna Umar (radhiAllaahu ‘anhu) to bury their daughters, his tribe being Bani ‘Adee. And his laqab (nickname) is ‘Abu Hafs’ (after his daughter).

4) There is indeed a Hadith in Mu’jam al Kabir of Imaam Tabaraani where Nu’maan bin Basheer (radhiAllaahu ‘anhuma) narrates: Qays Bin Aasim came to the messenger of Allaah and said that he buried his daughter whilst in Jahiliyah. So he was told to free a slave for each of his daughters, until the end of the Hadith.

In the above oft-quoted hadith, Sayyiduna Umar (radhiAllaahu ‘anhu) was only one of the narrators in the chain, however only Qays Ibn Aasim was stated as having buried his daughters, not Sayyiduna Umar or any of the other narrators !
(all the above was copy-pasted from here)

5) This narration is unfortunately widespread amongst sunnis, and may be people tend to remember this false story because of Sayyiduna ‘Umar’s well-known temper, but that is definitely not a proof in itself. Don’t establish facts by what appeals your mind.

Even if one was to believe this story, we know that what ever was done in Jahiliyah (the pre-islamic period of ignorance) is forgiven. Some famous sahabah even used to drink before its complete prohibition, are they worth less? Of course not, so what is not attested should not be spread, nor invented.

Thus, Sayyiduna Umar (radhiAllahu ‘anhu) is forgiven his previous sins just like anyone else : if a person was committing shirk before Islam and upon his conversion his act of shirk is forgiven; then what about any other sin less than shirk, which are not even confirmed subhanAllah ?

Lastly, don’t forget the shi’as are at the forefront in propagating this narration, be not of those who are pushing their agendas against those that supported the Prophet ; it is true many made the unintentional mistake of reporting this fabricated narration in biographies of Sayyiduna ‘Umar ibn-ul-Khattab, Allah be pleased with him. But now that you’re in the know, act wisely. Allah is watching how we show respect to those who strove in His cause with their wealth and their lives.

Apostasy in Islam : the inexistent killing of Asma bint Marwan

December 5, 2012
  • Status : FABRICATED

Here is the report copy-pasted :

A woman from Banu Khatamah wrote poetry lampooning the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and news of that reached the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and upset him. He said: “Who will deal with her for me?” A man from among her people said: I will, O Messenger of Allah! She was a seller of dates, so he went to her and said to her: Do you have any dates? She said: Yes. So she showed him some dates, and he said: I want something better than this. So she went inside to show him and he followed her and looked right and left, but he did not see anything except a small table, and he kept hitting her head with it until he killed her. Then he went to the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I have taken care of her for you. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “The validity of what you have done is something that no one could dispute.”

narrated by Muhammad ibn al-Hajjaaj al-Lakhami Abu Ibraaheem al-Waasiti.

The reporter in the chain of narration, Muhammad Ibn Al-Hajjâj, is known for fabricating Hadiths.

Ibn ‘Adiyy mentions this incident in his book “Al-Kamal” :
“…this Isnad (chain of reporters) is not narrated on authority of Mujalid but by Muhammad Ibn Al-Hajjaj and they all (other reporters in the chain) accuse Muhammad Ibn Al-Hajjaj of forging it.”

Al-Bukhari (author of the eponym hadith work and widely accepted authority of hadith) said concerning this Muhammad Ibn Al-Hajjaj : His hadeeth is to be rejected.

Ibn Ma‘een said: (He is) an evil liar.

Ad-Dâraqutni said: (He is) a liar; and on one occasion he said: He is not trustworthy.

And he is by the way the same guy who fabricated the ‘hadith of harissa’ (for sexual gain), since he was a harissa seller.

A second version of the same incident was narrated :

It was narrated by al-Waaqidi in al-Maghaazi (p. 173) and via him by al-Qadaa‘i (858): ‘Abdullah ibn al-Haarith told me, from his father, that ‘Asma bint Marwaan, from Banu Umayyah ibn Zayd, was married to Yazeed ibn Zayd ibn Hisn al-Khatmi. She used to revile the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), criticise Islam and incite people against the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). When news of what she said and her incitement of the people reached ‘Umayr ibn ‘Adiyy ibn Kharashah ibn Umayyah al-Khatmi, he said: O Allah, I make a vow to You that I shall kill her if You grant a safe return to Madinah to the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) – as the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was in Badr at that time. When the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) came back from Badr, ‘Umayr ibn ‘Adiyy came to her in the middle of the night and entered upon her in her house when she had a group of her children sleeping around her, including an infant who was still being breastfed. He reached out to touch her and found the infant whom she was breastfeeding. He pushed the child aside then he plunged his sword into her chest until it came out of her back. Then he went out and prayed Fajr with the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) in Madinah. When the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) finished praying, he looked at ‘Umayr and said: Did you kill the daughter of Marwaan? He said: Yes, may my father be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah.

‘Umayr was afraid that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) would not approve of his killing her, so he said: Is there any sin on me for that, O Messenger of Allah? He said: “The validity of what you have done is something that no one could dispute.” And this is the first time I heard this phrase from the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). ‘Umayr said: The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) turned to those who were around him and said: “If you want to see a man who supported Allah and His Messenger, then look at ‘Ubayr ibn ‘Adiyy.”

This is a worthless isnaad as well.

Imam Ahmad said concerning al-Waaqidi – whose name was Muhammad ibn ‘Umar ibn Waaqid – : He is a liar; he alters hadeeths.

Ibn Ma‘een said: He is not trustworthy. On one occasion he said: His hadeeth is not to be written down.

Al-Bukhaari and Abu Haatim said: He is matrook (rejected).

Abu Hâtim and an-Nasâ’î said: He fabricates hadeeth.

Ibn al-Madeeni said: al-Waaqidi fabricates hadeeth.

Ibn ‘Adiyy said: His hadeeths are odd and problematic.

An-Nasâ’î said: The liars who are known for fabricating hadeeth are four: Ibraaheem ibn Abi Yahya in Madinah, al-Waaqidi in Baghdad, Muqaatil in Khorasan and Muhammad ibn Sa‘eed in Syria.

In the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet  prohibits the killing of women in war. The Prophet of mercy also forbade to kill the jewess that poisoned him once.

However, the stories of Ka’b ibn al-Ashraf and Abu Rafi’, due to speaking ill against and insulting the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) are found authentic in Bukhari. Thus my intention here is to remove lies around a specific case, not to be ashamed of any ruling of the noble shari’ah.

The extremely weak story of ‘Alqamah…

May 8, 2012
  • Status : EXTREMELY WEAK

Here is the report copy-pasted  :

At the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him), there was a young man named `Alqamah. He was very diligent in obeying Allah by engaging in prayer and fasting and spending in charity. Then he fell ill and his illness became serious. His wife went to the Prophet and said, ”My husband, Alqamah, is on his deathbed. I therefore came to tell you, Messenger of Allah, about his condition.” The Prophet (then) sent for Ammar or Suhaib and Bilal, and told them to go to him (Alqamah) and have him repeat the Shahadah. Thereupon they went to him and found him in the agony of death. They asked him to say, “La illaha illa Allah,” but his tongue was unable to pronounce it. At that, they came and told the Messenger of Allah that he was unable to repeat the Shahadah. The Prophet asked, “Is either of his parents alive?” He was told, “Messenger of Allah, his mother is, but she is very old.” The Prophet sent her a message that if it was convenient for her (that is, is she was able to go out), she should come to him; otherwise she should stay in her house and the Prophet would come to her. The Prophet’s messenger came to her and informed her of the Prophet’s message. She said, “May my life be a ransom for him, it is my pleasure to go to him!” She then stood up, leaning on her walking stick, and came to the Prophet and greeted him. The Prophet returned her greeting and said to her, “Umm Alqamah, tell me the truth, for otherwise Allah Most High will reveal the truth to me! What is the situation concerning your son, Alqamah?” She replied, “Messenger of Allah, he prays much, fasts a great deal, and spends a great amount in charity.” The Prophet said, “And what about yourself?” She said, “Messenger of Allah, I am angry with him.” He said, “Why?” She replied, “Messenger of Allah, he has preferred his wife to me and has disobeyed me.” Then Allah’s Messenger said, “Umm Alqamah, surely your anger has prevented Alqamah’s tongue from pronouncing the Shahadah.” He then turned to Bilal and said, “Bilal, go out and collect a quantity of firewood.” She said, “Messenger of Allah, what do you plan to do?” He replied, “I will burn him in front of your eyes.” She said, “Messenger of Allah, he is my son! My heart cannot bear your burning him in front of me!” He said, “Umm Alqamah, Allah’s punishment is more severe and more lasting! Therefore, if you want Allah to forgive him, be reconciled to him. By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, the prayer, fasting, and spending in charity (which he has done) are of no benefit to Alqamah as long as you are angry with him! Thereupon she said, “Messenger of Allah, I call upon Allah Most High and His angels and the Muslims who are present to be my witnesses that I am pleased with my son Alqamah.” Allah’s Messenger said, “Bilal, go to him and see whether he is now able to say, “La illaha illa Allah” or not. It may be that Umm Alqamah is saying something for my sake which is not in her heart.” Thereupon Bilal went, and while entering the door he heard Alqamah saying, “La illaha illa Allah.” (Concerning this), Bilal remarked, “It is surely true that while Alqamah’s mother was angry with him his tongue was tied, and now that she is pleased with him his tongue is freed.” Alqamah died the same day. The Prophet came to him and gave the order for his washing and shrouding, and then prayed the funeral prayer for him and buried him. He then stood by the side of his grave and said, “You company of Muhajireen and Helpers, if anyone favors his wife over his mother, Allah and His angels and all the people curse him! Allah does not accept his spending (in charity) and his uprightness unless he repents toward Allah, the Glorious and Majestic, and reconciles with her and attains her pleasure, because Allah’s pleasure consists in her pleasure and Allah’s anger consists in her anger.” Source: Reported in Tabarani and Ahmed.

1. Ibnul Jawzi mentioned an abridged version of this narration in his Al Mawdû’ât (a book consisting of fabricated narrations attributed to the Holy Prophet ).

As Suyûti narrates from Al ‘Uqayli that this hadith is unauthentic (Al La’âliy al Masnû’ah) Shaykh Mash’hûr quotes this story in his ‘Qisas la tathbut’ (unfounded stories). The late shaykh

Al Albâni also criticised the reliability of this narration.

2. Likewise,  the attribution to “Ahmad” is misleading, as all that is mentioned in Musnad Ahmed is that this was originally part of the Musnad, thereafter Imam Ahmad (due to its severe weakness) removed it from his book.

  3. One problem of this narration is in its isnad : Faa’id Ibnu Abdir Rahmân Abu-l Waraqâ has been severely criticised by muhadditheen : Imam Ahmad, Ibnul Jawzi, Al ‘Uqayli and Al-Haythami say whatever he narrates should be neglected (matrûk).

Ibnu Hibbân asserts that it is impermissible to quote his narrations in an argumentation (la yajuzul ihtijaj bih). He was deemed ‘munkar ul hadith’, ‘dhahib ul hadîth’, ‘layssa bithiqatin’, ‘layssa bi shay’in’, ‘ittahamûhu ay bil kidhb aw bi wadh’il hadîth, ‘âmatu hadîthihi kadhibun’.

4. ‘Ulamas have also mentioned the following :  whenever a tradition is mentioned at the start with words hukiya (“it is told”, as reported in al-kaba’ir) or ruwiya (“it is reported”, as written in At-targhib wat tarhib), then its authenticity is problematic to say the least.

Thus this widespread story of ‘Alqamah is NOT authentically reported from the Holy Prophet Muhammad and thus cannot constitute a solid proof in Islam, although ONE MUST OBEY HIS PARENTS.

“Hirz of Abu Dujana” to be protected from jinns ?

December 27, 2011
  •  Status : FABRICATED

Here is the report copy-pasted :

Abu Dujana said, “I was lying down, when I heard a noise like the noise of a mill or that of the leaves of a tree and saw a flash like lightning. I raised my head to see something black that was rising in the middle of the room. I felt it with my hand. It was like a porcupine’s skin. It began to throw things like sparks at my face. At once I went to Rasulullah and told him what had happened. He said, ‘O Aba Dujana! May Allah give your home goodness and abundance!’ He asked for a pen and a piece of paper. He had Ali ‘radiAllahu anh’ write a letter. I took the letter to my home. I put it under my head and went to sleep. A yelling voice woke me up. It said, ‘O Aba Dujana! You have burned me with that letter. Your owner is certainly much higher than we are. There is no way of escape for us, except that you remove that letter. We shall no longer come to your home or your neighbors.’ We cannot go to places where the letter is.’ I told him that I could not remove the letter without getting my owner’s permission. The night seemed very long to me because of the crying and wailing of genies. After performing the morning prayer in the mosque, I told Rasulullah what the genie had said. Rasulullah ‘sallAllahu alaihi wa sallam’ said, ‘Remove the letter. Or else they will suffer the letter’s pain till the Resurrection.'”

hirz of abu-dujana also known as tehdid nama supposedly to counter jinns

It is a forgery according to :

Al-Dhahabî who said “The amulet of Abu Dujanah is not authentic and I do not know who fabricated it.” (see Mîzân al-I’tidâl) and (Al-Siyar, 1/245)

Ibn al-Jawzi ““Without doubt, this is a fabrication and its chain of transmitters is broken… there is no biographical information available with regards to many of its narrators”” (Al-Mawdu’ât, 3/169)

Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalânî (Al-Isâba)

Al-Suyuti who said “It is a fabrication and its chain of transmission is broken and most of its transmitters are unknown.” (al-La’âlî al-Masnû’ah, 2/292)

Its Sanad (chain of narrators) is disconnected and most of the narrators are unknown. It was reported by Musa Al-Ansary, and there is no Sahaby that carries this name.

Some may say this letter 100% works so how dare you say it is fabricated ? First of all the aforementioned scholars know more on the science of hadith than you, me or any excorcists whose speciality is not hadith.
Moreover this letter ‘working’ is in no way a proof to establish the authenticity of the report; going by this logic invoking sayyiduna ‘Isa (AS) or sayyiduna ‘Ali (RA) also ‘works’ according to the christians or the shi’as, whereas we know invoking other than Allah is haram and tantamount to shirk akbar.

Lastly, there are effective ways to be protected and be cured from the effect of evil jinns, first and foremost abide by the laws of shari’ah you may be violating (search a little bit within your self and you’ll find out), read Qur’an excessively (particularly some specific verses, look for “ruqyah verses” on Google), read masnoon invocations (Hisn-ul-muslim for example) and do loads of dhikr with devotion. Bi idhnillah nothing can stand to the power of The Creator.

Fake hadith about hell that supposedly made our Prophet ﷺ cry !

June 22, 2011
  • Status : FABRICATED

Concerning the report copy-pasted below :

First of all no source is ever given for this story, ie from which kitab this story comes from. In fact no primary ahadith book contains this narration, with the exception of Al-Samarqandi (rahimahullah)’s Tambeeh-ul-ghaafileen, which is well known for its da’eef (weak) and mawdhu (forged) narrations amongst the scholars.

Then the narrator mentioned, Yazid Al-Riqaashi, was severely criticised by many muhadditheen as matrook (left) or dha’eef (weak). And although this hadith contains some parts confirmed by other sahih narrations, the whole story simply cannot be attributed to the Holy Prophet .

Source : http://saaid.net/Doat/Zugail/321.htm

Here is the entire sequence of the report copy-pasted (random version) :

Yazid Arrafichi reported on Anas Ibn Malek said the angel Jibril (Gabriel) came to Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) at a time when he did not usually come with an abnormal color.

Then the Prophet said: “So I see you are in a different color (Abnormal) what is it?”

Then Jibril said: “O Muhammad! I have come to you an hour which Allah (AWJ) has ordered the blowers of hell to blow the fire on hell! It has to be known clearly to the ones who know that hell (Jahannam) is indeed, that the fire is a truth, that the punishment in the grave is a truth and the punishment of Allah is immense, and that he is not satisfied and quiet because that is permitted only to him who is sure to avoid it!”

The Prophet: “O Jibril, decribe it to me.”

Jibril: “Yes, when Allah created Hell (Jahannam) He fired for 1000 years that it became flaming red. Then He fired for 1000 other years and it became smokey white! Then He fired another 1000 years and it became dark black! Jahannam is black and very dark and it is never extinguished, and likewise for its flames and balls of fire! And I swear by Him Who sent you with truth that: if a small opening of the size of a needle had been made a hell, then all people in this life would have been burned by the heat! And I swear by Him Who sent you with the truth that if the coat of clothes of the people of hell had been hung between heaven and earth then all the people of the earth would have succumbed to its odor and its Heat! And I swear by Him Who sent you with the truth that if a ring of chain which Allah has mentioned in his Quran was placed on a mountain then it would fade to the seventh earth (the deepest of the earth) And I swear by Him Who sent you with the truth that if a person was undergoing the punishment to the west, then person being at East would have been burned because of the greatness of the punishment! Its heat is very large and its bottom is very deep. It has seven doors, each door is divided: one part forwomen and another part for men!”

The prophet asks: “Are they similar to our doors?”

Jibril: “No, they are open and are one below the other! Between each door there is the equivalent of 70 years of walking and the heat of the door before the first is 70 times higher than the first and so on…. “

The Prophet: “Who dwells in these doors?”

Jibril: “The lowest contains the hypocrites, and people who did not believe the people of ‘elmaida’ (table served) and the people of Pharaoh and it is called ‘Haawiyah’. Haawiyah – chasm or abyss – because the one who is thrown into it is thrown from top to bottom.

The second contains the disbelievers ‘mochrikin’ and it’s called ‘jaheem’. Jaheem – fire – because of its blazing fire.

The third contains the sabiun and it’s called ‘Saqar’. Saqar – because of the intensity of its heat.the fourth contains Iblis (Satan) and those who followed and the majouss. It is called ‘Ladthaa’. Ladthaa – blazing fire – because of its flames.

The fifth contains the Jews and called ‘Hatamah’. Hatamah – broken pieces or debris – because it breaks and crushes everything that is thrown into it.

The sixth contains the Christians and it is called ‘Sa’eer’. Sa’eer – blazing flame – because it is kindled and ignited.

Then Jibril stopped talking out of respect for the prophet.

Then the Prophet (SAWS) said : “Can you tell me who the people of the seventh door are?”

Jibril replied: “It contains people from your community who have major sins (KABA) and died and did not repent ‘Tawba’!”

Then the Prophet fainted, Jibril put his head on his knee until he woke up.

When he awoke the Prophet said: “O Jibril, will people from my community enter hellfire?”

“Yes, those who have made major sins.”

Then the prophet wept and wept as did Jibril.

The prophet closed himself in his house and he only went out for the prayer and he spoke to no one! he wept in prayer and invoked

Allah.

Abu Baker on the third day came knocking on the door of the Prophet and said :

“Assalamo alaykom ahla elbayt (people of the house), how is the prophet today? But nobody replied. Then he left in tears.

Then came Salman ELfarisi :

“Assalamo alaykom ahla elbayt and how is the prophet today? But nobody replied! So he left in tears (and he could not walk (he walked and stumbled/fell until he arrives at the door of the house of Fatima (the daughter of the Prophet) and said: “Assalamo alaykom daughter of the Prophet” and Ali was absent :

“O daughter of the prophet, the prophet is no onger seen amongst the people, he remains in his house, he only comes for prayer, not talking to anyone and does not allow anyone to enter his home.”

Fatima then rushed to the house of the prophet and she stopped at the front of the door of the Prophet, she says her Salaams and said: “O Prophet it
is me Fatima.” and the prophet was in a position sujood and crying. He
raised his head and said:

“How can it be an obstacle between me and my tender and sweet darling Fatima? Open the door to her!”

They opened the door and Fatima entered. When she saw the state of the prophet (His face was very pale, sadness and all tears he had shed had
made him much thinner) She began to cry and said: “O Prophet what happened to you?”

The Prophet then said: “O Fatima: Jibril came to me and he described the gates of hell, and he told me that in the upper door, there will people
in my community who have done great sin (ka baer) and

that is what made me cry and made me sad.”

Fatima : “how do they go into hell? “

The Prophet : “The angels lead them to hell, they will not have

blackened faces, they will not have blue eyes, they will not have their mouth closed, they will not be with the devils nor are they wearing necklaces
of hellfire”

Fatima : “how do the angels lead them?”

The Prophet : “The men by their beards. And women through the ‘thawaeb’ and ‘Nawas’ Indeed, many old men in my community die and say, while being
led to hell ‘Oh my elderness, oh my weakness!’ And how many will die
young and go while being led to hell ‘Oh my youth, oh my beauty!’ And
how many women die in my community and say, while being led to hell ‘Oh!
What a horrible discovery, do not reveal my sins!’.

Until they reach Malik! So when Malik looks at them, he say to the angels: “Who are these people? My people have never entered in a state like theirs (their faces are not darkened, their eyes are are not blue, their mouths are not closed!!)”

So the angels say: “This is how we were ordered to deliever them to you.”

Malik then asks these people : “Who are you, o miserables?”

And in another hadith it is said that when taking these people to Hell, they said “Oh Mohamad oh Mohamad!” But when they saw Malik they have forgotten the name Muhamad (SAWS) to the sublime grandeur of Malik then he said “Who are you? “

They say “We are the people on whom the Qur’an descended (Muslims). And we are among those who were fasting in month of Ramadan!”

Malik then said, “The Qu’ran was descended on the community of Muhamad (SAWS)! So when they hear the name of Mohamed they shouted “We are among
the community of Muhamad (SAWS)!”

Malik then said : “Was there not in the Qu’ran which saved you against the sins?? “

So when they take on the banks of hell and they will see the

fire and ‘Zabaniya’.

They will say “Oh Malik allows us to cry over our state” Then Malek

gives permission. They shed tears until they didn’t have any left so they started to cry blood!

Malik then says : “Those tears would have been welcomed in your passage in dunya (the world)! If you had mourned for fear of Allah in the world, the fire would not touch you now!”

Then Malik said to ZABANIYA : “Throw them into the fire!”

When they were thrown in the fire they all cried “la ilaha illa allah!” Then the fire threw them back out!

Malik tells the Fire : “Take them!”

Hellfire says : “How to take them, when they say ‘la ilaha illa allah?”

Malik: “Yes that is what our Lord has ordered” so the fire took! Some them by their feet, another by the legs, the other by their throat! Until it reaches the face.

Malik then told the fire : “Do not burn their faces, as it has done sujood

for Allaah ar-Rahman in their life! And do not burn their hearts because they were often thirst during Ramadan. They would remain a very long time and will say : “Ya Rahman, Ya Raheem, Ya hannan, Ya mannan!” And so we apply the order of Allah (AWJ).

Allah will ask Jibril : “What did we do the community of Muhamad (SAWS)?”

Jibril says :” Oh, Allah you know best about of their condition.”

Then Allah (AWJ) will say : “Go and see their state.”

Then Jibril (as) went to meet Malik who was sitting on a chair of fire in the middle of hell. When he sees Jibril (as), Malik will rise out of respect for him, and he says : “O Jibril, why did you come to this place? “

Jibril : “What have you done to the people, the people who committed sins in the community of Muhamad (SAWS)?”

Malik : “What a bad and sad situation they are in and as their location is small and tight on them, their bodies are burned and their flesh are
destroyed by fire, there remain only their faces and their hearts
containing

‘The iman’ (faith) that shines!”

Jibril : “Show them to me.” Then Malik ordered the guards of hell to show them.

When people looked at Jibril and saw his beauty, they knew that he was not a part of the Angels of fire.

From hell (the punishment) they will say :

“Who is this creature! We had never seen such beauty.”

Malik then says : “This is Jibril, the angel who came down with the ‘wahy’ on Prophet Muhamad (SAWS).”

So when they hear the name Mohamad they all cried : “Oh Jibril passe our Salam to Muhamad (SAWS) and tell him that our sins are shared between us and you. And speak to him about our state!”

Jibril then leaves until he gets between the two hands of his Lord. So Allah (AWJ) will say : “In what state did you find the Community of Muhamad?”

Jibril answered : “O my Lord they are in a bad state! and in a very difficult one!”

Allah (AWJ) says : ” Did they ask you something?”

He will say : “O my Lord yes. They asked me to pass on their Salaams to the Prophet (SAWS) and tell him about their bad condition!”

Allah (AWJ) says : “Go and tell him.”

Jibril will go to see the Prophet (SAWS) who will be in a tent ‘Dorra’ white that has 4000 doors. Each door is composed of two gold parts.

Jibril says : “O Muhammad I came to you from the group of sinners of your community who suffers the tortures of the fire! They told me to pass
their Salaam and tell you that their condition is very bad and they

suffer tremendously!”

The Prophet (SAWS) will go until he reaches below the throne of his Lord. He prostates infront of the Creator, to praise and glorify Him and
did so in a manner nobody could ever do.

Allah (AWJ) said : “Lift up your head and whatever you ask I will give you. And intercede in favor of whoever you want, I would accept it!”

The Prophet (SAWS) : “O my Lord the miserables of my community ; your judgments are applied against them and you have avenged of them. Allow me to intercede on their behalf “

Allah will say : “I will allow the intercession for them. Go to hell and bring out those who say ‘la ilaha illa Allah’.”

The prophet will leave in search of the people. When Malik sees the Prophet (SAWS), he will stand up out of respect for

the Prophet (SAWS) then he will say : “O Malik how is my community (ie the miserables)?”

Malik says: “Their condition is critical!”

Then the Prophet (SAWS) says : “Show me!”

When people of hell see Muhamad (SAWS) they all cry : “O Muhamad! Our skin is burned and the fire burned our guts!”

Then he will take them out and they would have become in the meantime coal (black and burned).

He will leave with them to a river to the gate of Paradise called the river of vivacity (state of being vivacious), they swim and emerge rejuvenated and very fine without any ‘flaws’. Their faces are like the full moon.

It will be written on their foreheads ‘the people of Hell’. Allaah Ar-Rahman has freed from the fire, and they will enter Paradise.

And when the people of Hell will see that Muslims come out of Hell, they would regret to not have been a Muslim. They will say : “Too bad if we
were Muslims in the world below, we would have left Hell today!”

“Whoever neglects prayer, Allah will send fifteen punishments upon him”?

July 22, 2009
  • Status: FABRICATED

Obviously, neglecting salah (prayer) is a a great sin and I invite myself and all of you to remain steadfast in it. One way is to remind each other about what our Prophet Muhammad [saws] has said regarding it and there are many authentic reports compiled by our illustrious ‘Ulama on this matter.

However the problem arises when we start quoting unauthentic reports out of so-called ‘good intention’ but lying on our Prophet Muhammad [saws].

Here is the entire sequence of the report copy-pasted (random version) :

HADITH OF PROPHET (P.B.U.H)
The one who disdains the prayers will receive fifteen punishments from Allah. Six punishments in this lifetime Three while dying , Three in the grave & Three on the Day of Judgement.
THE SIX PUNISHMENTS OF LIFE:
1. Allah takes away blessings from his age(makes his life misfortunate)
2.Allah does not accept his plea(Du’aa)
3.Allah erases the features of good people from his face.
4.He will be detested by all creatures on earth.
5.Allah does not award him for his good deeds.(No thawab)
6.He will not be included in the Du’aa of good people.
THE THREE PUNISHMENTS WHILE DYING:
1. He dies humiliated.
2. He dies hungry.
3. He dies thirsty. Even if he drinks the water of all seas he will still be thirsty.
THE THREE PUNISHMENTS IN THE GRAVE:
1. Allah tightens his grave until his chest ribs come over each other.
2. Allah pours on him fire with embers.
3. Allah sets on him a snake called “the brave”,”the bold”
which hits Him from morning until afternoon for leaving Fajr prayer, from the afternoon until Asr for leaving Dhuhr prayer and so on.With each strike he sinks 70 yards under the ground.
THE THREE PUNISHMENTS ON THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT:
1. Allah sends who would accompany him to hell pulling him on the face.
2. Allah gives him an angry look that makes the flesh of his face fall down.
3. Allah judges him strictly and orders him to be thrown in hell.

This one was fabricated by Ibn al-‘Abbas al-Baghdadi al-Attar, as was stated by the scholars of hadith such as

al-Hafiz al-Dhahabi in Mizan al-I’tidal who said : ”He (Muhammad Ibn ‘Ali) fabricated on the authority of Ali Ibn Bakr Ibn Ziyad al-Naisaboori an ascription of false Hadith concerning one who neglects performing prayers’.

al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar who said in Lisan al-Mizan : ‘This Hadith is clearly false, fabricated among the Sufi groups’ and others.

These two scholars are the undoubted authorities in the science of hadith so their judgements is from among the most learned-ones in this field.

You might have found this narration in a book written by a respectable scholar, but that doesn’t mean he exactly knew the opinion of muhadditheen on it. He actually would have loved to see you rejecting a fabricated narration.

Mawdu’ and extremely weak hadith : its ruling

May 1, 2009

The definition of Hadith (حديث) according to the Muhaddithîn is “The knowledge of the sayings of Rasulullah , his actions, conditions, acknowledgements of actions and that of his Sahaba [RA] and those beyond them (who are followed in Deen).”
(Fath al-Baqiy Bi Sharh Alfiyyah al-‘Iraqiy Pg.41)

  • Mawdu’ Hadith (الحديث موضوع)

A Mawdu’ hadith is a fabricated one, due to its content (matn) or its chain of narration (isnad). Hadiths with no source are also dealt with here and are treated as a forgery unless a reliable source is brought up.

Serious Warnings given to those narrating storytales about the Holy Prophet

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Whoever tells lies about me deliberately, let him take his place in Hell.” (Bukhari and Muslim, nearly two hundred sahabahs have reported this narration!)
He also said: “When the Children of Israel were doomed they started to tell stories.” (hadith da’if according to some, hasan for others) and that “Among the greatest of lies is for a man to claim to belong to someone other than his father, or to claim that he has seen something which he did not see, or to attribute words to the Messenger of Allaah  that he did not say.”

So the ahadith regarding this matter are pretty clear heh? So everyone who narrates fabricated ahadith and stories about the Messenger of Allah and does not point out which are sahih and which are false is included among the sinners and is exposed to the warning of Allah.

I’ve just read a ‘juicy hadith’ whose authenticity might not be proven but it might make some cry, can I still propagate it?

NO. And you may also have an ego problem if your intention is to make other people cry.

What if we were in an Islamic State…?

Al-Suyooti mentioned that “whoever narrated false ahaadeeth deserves to be whipped and threatened with worse, and to be rebuked and boycotted; he should not be greeted, he may be talked about behind his back for the sake of Allah [see, even ‘backbiting’ becomes allowed], he should be referred to the ruler (to stop him doing this), judgement should be passed to prevent him from narrating such reports, and testimony should be given against him”.
Tahdheer al-Khawaas min Akaadheeb al-Qussaas, p.167.
This is in order to defend the Sunnah of the Prophet and to eliminate false reports, and to protect individuals and societies against these fables and lies.

You see it’s easy on the net : one just log-in on the forums/social websites, copy/paste-likes-retweet an article using forged stories attributed to the prophet while not at all concerned about the authenticity of the report, only our glory/number of views/retweets/likes seem to count.

Some useful related links which shows complexity of the hadith science:

  • Extremely weak hadith

‘Ulamas have explained that for using a Da’if (weak) hadith, it is absolutely necessary that these 3 conditions are met:

  1. The narration may not be mawdhu OR its weakness not be too important;
  2. The hadith must be in accordance with renown and legitimated practices, established from valid references (Qur’an verses, authentic or reliable ahadith)
  3. One must not have the conviction that the hadith is legitimate and established so that one does not attribute to the Holy Prophet something he may not have said, as a precaution the hadith being unfounded.

Now what do we see nowadays ? Condition #3 is barely respected, and point #2 is taken lightly most often. As for #1, the degree of weakness is not always sought, as for some people any weak hadith = can be used. NO, it CAN be used PROVIDED above conditions are respected.

That is why I have included the ‘Extremely weak hadith’ in this blog as they are frequently quoted without satisfying the 3 conditions.

There is one hadith that I think may be unreliable, but I can still use it for fadha’il, right ?

NO,  Rasulullah is reported to have said ‘Whoever narrates such a Hadith from me regarding whose authenticity he doubts, then he is also from the liars.’
Sahih Muslim Vol.1 Pg.6 of Introduction; Sunan Ibn Majah Pg.5, Hadith39.

Either you believe it is reliable or not.

  • Unfounded stories

And what about heart-softeners (eg fabrications on lives of scholars, miracles/stories on people) that are too fabricated and whose lessons contain something contrary to the teachings of Islam?

Undoubtedly these false stories are things that become widespread among those who do not understand their religion properly. They are propagated by liars and storytellers who fabricate lies against the laws of Allah.

What we must do is be above being mere storytellers who tell the common folk stories that go against shari’ah. The salaf of this ummah issued a stern warning against these storytellers, because of the bad effects that their stories have on the common folk and because they contain things that go against the laws of Allah.

Ibn al-Jawzi (Rahimahullâh) said in Talbees Iblees (p. 150):

Rather the storytellers are condemned because they tell many stories without mentioning any beneficial knowledge, and usually they mix sound and unsound material in what they narrate and rely on things that are mostly impossible.

It was narrated that Abu Qilaabah ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Zayd said:

Nothing kills knowledge but stories. A man may sit with another man for a year and not learn anything from him, and he may sit with a knowledgeable man and not get up until he has learned something.Hilyat al-Awliya’ (2/287).

How often do these storytellers narrate from bad reports to the masses, and tell them these fables, which reach such a status among the masses that they believe everything that they hear and even give them precedence over the scholars and seekers of knowledge.

Ibn al-Jawzi also said:

The storyteller narrates weird reports to the masses, and tells them that even if he had even the slightest whiff of knowledge he would not have told them. So the masses leave with a lot of false notions in their minds, which they discuss amongst themselves. If a scholar denounces them, they say: we heard this, he narrated it to us. How many storytellers have misled others by means of the fabricated reports they narrate to them; how many people have turned yellow with hunger (because of what they heard encouraging asceticism); how many people left their families, homes and cities to wander like monks; how many have refrained from doing that which is permitted; how many have refrained from learning and teaching knowledge, believing that he is going against his own whims and desires; how many have made their children orphans because of their asceticism whilst still alive; how many have turned away from their wives and not given them their rights, so that she is neither single nor truly married.Al-Mawdoo’aat (1/32)

Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (Rahimahullâh) said:

The greatest liars among the people are the storytellers. The people need truthful storytellers who will remind them of death and the punishment of the grave. It was said to him: Didn’t you attend their gatherings? He said: No.Al-Adaab al-Shar’iyyah by Ibn Muflih al-Hanbali (2/82).

The storytellers pay too much attention to stories and myths, which they narrate to the common folk, without any understanding or knowledge, and the common man hears a lot but does not understand any ruling or gain any knowledge.

Isn’t that true? I’m sure you have read those narrations yet you could not find what was the right thing to do!? Woe to the liars!

The Salafs did not took this matter lightly. You don’t need more quotes, as it should be evident to you they followed the sunnah more than you and me.

LET US ALL CHANGE FOR THE BETTER !
