Glance to parents = reward of an accepted Hajj ?

June 1, 2013
  • Status : EXTREMELY WEAK / FABRICATED

In order to motivate our youngsters, it is often reported :

Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The pious offspring who casts a single look of affection at his parents receives a reward from Allah equal to the reward of an accepted Hajj.” The people enquired: “O Prophet of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam), if someone casts a hundred such glances of love and affection at his parents, what then?” The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Yes, indeed, even if one does so a hundred times a day, he will get a hundred fold reward. Allah is far greater than you imagine and is completely free from petty narrow mindedness.” [Sahih Muslim]

Firstly, this narration is NOT in Sahih Muslim. This is yet another misattribution.

Secondly, it has been narrated through three different chains of narrators

1) It is found in Al-Bayhaqî’s Shu’ab al-îmân and contains a narrator by the name of Nahshal Ibn Sa’eed who was accused of lying by Ishâq bin Râhaway and Abû Dâwûd at-Tayâlisî.

Ad-Dhahabî graded it munkar (rejected) in his ‘Siyar a’lam an-nubalâ”’ (19/208) and Al-Albânî graded it as mawdû’ in his ‘Silsilat ad-Da’eefah’, 3298.

2) Also found in Siyaru A’lâm-in-Nubalâ of Al-Dhahabî and its chain contains a certain Muhammad Ibn Humaid whom experts have opined that “he is unreliable / he has many unacceptable narrations / I have not seen anybody more artful in lying than Ibn Humaid”

3) A third narration is found in Ibn Abid Dunya’s Makârim-ul-Akllâq, but its narrators are also unreliable.

Therefore, all these narrations are extremely weak. In fact, Allâmah Suyûtî and Allâmah Ibn ‘Arrâq have classified it as a fabrication, as both have narrated the Hadīth in their books on fabricated Ahâdîth; Az-Ziyâdât ‘Alâ al-Mawdhû’ât and Tanzihu-sh-Sharî’ah respectively.

Thus there’s no way this report is reliable, this hadith is not ‘just weak’, it’s an extremely weak hadith, thus unquotable (click here to see why).

Obeying parents is of course not the matter here, one must respect parents, I am only highlighting the fact this hadith is not in sahih muslim and in fact cannot be quoted due to its high weakness.

Fabricated hadith on 360 rewards

August 4, 2012
  • Status : FABRICATED

Here is a random version of the report copy-pasted :

It was reported from the Messenger of Allah that he said about this Hadith: “Anyone recites this supplication at anytime is like performing 360 Hajj journeys, reciting the Qur’an 360 times, freeing 360 servants, giving 360 dinars in charity, and relieved 360 distressed person.” As soon the Prophet (peace be upon him) said that Hadith, Gabriel (peace be upon him) descended and said: Anyone of Allah’s Servants (male or female) recites this supplication once in a lifetime, by my highness and glory, I guarantee seven things for him: 1- Move away poverty from him/her. 2- Secure him/her from the interrogation of Munkar and Nakir. 3- Make him/her pass the Sirat. 4- Secure him/her against sudden death. 5- Prohibit Hell fire to harm him/her. 6- Secure him/her from the press of the grave. 7- Secure him/her against the wrath of an unjust ruler.

The text of the Hadith reads as follows : “La Ilaha Illa Allah, Al Jalil Al Jabbar. La Ilaha Illa Allah, Al Wahid Al Qahhar. La Ilaha Illa Allah, Al `Aziz Al Ghaffar. La Ilaha Illa Allah, Al Karim As-Sattar. La Ilaha Illa Allah, Al Kabir Al Muta’al. La Ilaha Illa Allah Wahdahu La Sharika Lahu, Ilahan Wahidan Rabban, wa Shahidan Samadan, wa nahnu Lahu Muslimun. La Ilaha Illa Allah Wahdahu La Sharika Lahu Ilahan wahidan, Rabban wa Shahidan, wa nahnu lahu `Abidun. La Ilaha Illa Allah Wahdahu La Sharika Lahu, Ilahan Wahidan Rabban wa Shahidan, wa nahnu Lahu Qanitun. La Ilaha Illa Allah Wahdahu La Sharika Lahu Ilahan Wahidan Rabban wa Shahidan, wa nahnu lahu Sabirun. La Ilaha Illa Allah Muhammad Rasul Allah. `Ali Waliullah. Allahumma Ilika Wajjahtu Wajhiya, wa Ilayka Fawadtu Amry, wa `Alayka Tawakaltu ya Arhama Ar-Rahimin.”

After a close examination of the papers in question, it has become clear that it is false and fabricated and it was not reported by the scholars of Hadith by these wordings and the proofs of its fabrication are obvious for the following :

  1. This invocation is contradictory to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) because it contains these numbers of rewards to the person who recites this invocation.
  2. It contains “`Ali Waliullah”. There is no doubt that `Ali ibn Abu Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) is one of Allah’s Guardians, but singling him out with that description denotes the touch of Shia.
  3. This Hadiths indicates that its reciter enters paradise even if he/she commits major sins or committed one of the nullifiers of faith which is void and not accepted either intellectually or by Shari`ah.

Thus it contains many statements that contradict the Shari`ah of Islam. It is contradictory to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Accordingly, it is obligatory to prevent the distribution of these and other similar papers which are meant to change and alter the monotheistic faith of Islam and follow misguidance, Bid`ahs and superstitions.

Advices to Sayyiduna ‘Ali (RA): “Read/Do 5 things before sleeping”

December 4, 2009
  • Status: NO SOURCE, FABRICATED

Here is the entire sequence of the report copy-pasted :

Rasulullah (pbuh) said to hazrat Ali (ra): oh ali: 1) give 4000 dinar in sadaqa daily, 2) read a whole quran daily, 3) pay the price of jannat daily, 4) make peace between 2 fighting persons daily, 5) perform hajj daily. H.Ali (ra) said, oh rasulullah, thats hard for me. Rasulullah (saw) told him 1) recite sura fatiha 4 times before sleeping, thats like you have given 4000 dinaar in sadqa daily. 2) recite sura ikhlaas 3 times before sleeping, thats like you have read the whole quran, 3) recite durood ibraaheem 10 times before sleeping, thats like you have paid for the price of jannat. 4) make istighfaar 10 times before sleeping,, thats like you have made peace between 2 fighting persons. 5) read 4th kalima 4 times before sleeping, thats like you have performed hajj.

This hadeeth which says that the Prophet gave this advice to ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA) is a lie that was fabricated against the Prophet  so it is not correct to attribute it to the him .

It has no source, so you cannot say it’s a hadith. Quoting it is not permissible.

You can perfectly recite these adhkar, nobody is saying it’s haram, however do not hold that it is from the Prophet ﷺ.

What is authentically proven to recite before sleeping is :
-Surah Al-Mulk
-Ayat Al-Kursi
-Last 2 verses from Surah Al-Baqarah (Aamanarrasoolu…)
-Surah Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Naas

(And best is to recite all of this)

So in conclusion, do NOT attribute this narration to the Prophet nor believe the content of this narration with regards to the rewards, but reading this is fine.
